=======================================================================================

Andrew Bartels as the Story Editor was reflected throughout the episode. It seemed as if Andrew was putting together both the background and new development for our characters for the new viewers of Monday Night 10 PM. We have lots and lots of past events or background measured against current position of things as they stand and if it really changes anything.

Highlights of the Episode - the hidden persona.
A little bit of story added to these characters with lots of reviewing of their past life.
  1. Sam is still the same caring Super Father that he is. Can do anything for his family. He bought a cell phone for his daughter and he put a GPS tracker to that. How he does that being a Special Agent is something that is beyond my understanding. Only Sam Hanna can do it. Even Kensi accepts quite calmly that her and Deeks cannot have Baby Deeks and Ninja Assassins with Fantastic Hair. Ofcourse they cannot start a family working on the same job.
  2. Like I said about Callen being grounded now in his love life with Joel in my Season 5 ending thoughts, we hear it from the horse's mouth. Yes, he is steadily going on with Joel. And Joel's parents are in town. Now he may not be willing to reveal himself to Joel or her parents, but that's who Callen is. He is a keeper of secrets. He was a lone Wolf, but now he is changing to The Grey Man, though Sam and Hetty may know about him a little more than anybody.
  3. And is Kensi any better? or for that matter Granger? All of them have CIA understanding and they are quick on attributes of being a CIA Agent or kin of CIA Agents. They understand "The Grey Man" and secrets they would never ever want to resurface. Granger and his CIA dealings continue even if he has joined NCIS. Kensi had too much of loss to bear on account of a CIA father and a CIA Fiancee. Which once in outrage as a teenager, she took to streets when her father died. Kensi remembers all of this in flash as everything seems connected from her father to Jack to Paul to The Grey Man and the Homeless people.
  4. In all of this, she finally consents to share her side of facts that she lived on streets for an year. What makes her tell or rather confess to Deeks, I cannot tell. Was it a moving on with the story gesture? It seems so considering what Andrew Bartels was doing with rest of the characters.
  5. Likewise Granger confesses to what he is privy to on the Afghanistan White Ghost Mission and how he is protecting secrets by keeping Hetty out of it because of her all the attention that she got from Washington and over Chauvenet.
  6. And where does that lead us to? Deeks is not an Agent. Then doesn't Deeks have any secrets ? In spite of him just being an LAPD Detective, Deeks is a Grey Man blending into situations unnoticed by anyone with his undercover skills. What does anyone know about him? Does Kensi know him? It was interesting to hear as he yells Plan B to Kensi as explosion takes place. It reminded me of his Season 2 Episode that takes everyone of us including Kensi, closer to what Deeks is. Things have changed a lot since Plan B for Deeks, but he could be as elusive as the other Agents.
  7. Last but not the least, Andew Bartels presents an episode where Hetty gets to do what she is best at. Costumes and dressing up her Agents. She dresses up Sam, Callen and Kensi impeccably for the undercover action. Its been quite a time, since these Agents had got dressed.

Episode
6x08 - The Grey Man
Grey Man is a term used for Govt Agents who are assigned special Ops for their ability to blend into any environment without being noticed. Murder of Grey Man Harrison Goodsell dawns on everyone how much they are Grey Man too; with or without them having families.
Writer
Andrew Bartels
Andrew Bartels is responsible for Story Editing this season. This means that he has the best grip on the story arcs that should continue throughout the season. In this story Andrew Bartels takes us close to Special Agent personality, one that is elusive and non-committal to anything other than their mission. Andrew Bartels has put together both the background and new development for our characters for the new viewers of Monday Night 10 PM. We have lots and lots of past events or background measured against current position of things as they stand and if it really changes anything.
Director
James Hanlon
I liked his direction. I had liked his 5x14-War Cries too; last season. Its action but more than action, its the way the interpersonal character dynamic and blending in to story, its lovely to watch.

Episode Summary
LAPD fingerprint search for a murdered old man, alerts DOD when the finger prints match with The Grey Man James Harrison Goodsell.
The Episode’s Mission is to find the killers of Agent Goodsell and what possible information he could have leaked to his captors and killers. Though the case be dismissed as routine one, Goodsell being a CIA Agent does, what really happens across the story is that our 3 Agents too start revealing their secrets to their partners. They feel themselves as “Not the Grey Man” material and yet by the end of the story we see that all these Agents are indeed like Goodsell, keeper of secrets, willing to die with secrets buried deep under and yet giving importance to that one person, anchoring family that binds them to something meaningful, so much that they can die for that cause without giving up on any of their secrets.
I will say, “Watch the Episode. One of the most feel good episode this season, along with 6x02-Inelegant Heart  and 6x03-Praesidium. Good ones to watch if you are more interested in the NCIS LA characters than the story’s procedural investigation of a crime drama of good guys catching bad guys with lots of BANG BANG and BOOM BOOM!”
NCIS Personnel Highlights / OSP fun
Plenty of Bull Pen chatter. Sam the Super Dad, the several calls made by Sam’s daughter to her father within minutes of activation of the cell phone and how everyone keeps reacting to how he talks to his daughter is a must watch scene.
What is the Chatter about? Its about Sam the Family Man, the Super Dad, Callen the very good all knowing friend of Sam, Deeks wishing the same food as Sam’s daughter asked for, inching to know more about Sam and Kensi feeling for Sam and his daughter, something that she too had with her Dad, only that she is not that person anymore. We just can see the maturity of the interpersonal dynamics of these Agents and detectives and how cosy it is with the foursome together.
Things to watch out for are:
“Mathlete” or to correctly put it “junior math olympian” [between Callen and Sam for Sam and how Sam’s daughter is getting trained for the same thing”]
Sam giving a phone to his daughter just so that he can keep track of her whereabouts. [Profession and his habits taking toll on him.]
Deeks watering to Sam’s daughter’s wish of “Sphaghetti with meatballs”. Deeks even wants to know how the punchline “Donuts Who” ends with.
And Kensi trying to find out who is “smothering” whom in over zealous attention and demand. Is it Sam or his daughter?
And all this until Eric Beale comes to call them into Ops through “Granger Danger” signal.
Ops Manager/s
OPs Manager Hetty Lange
Asst Director Owen Granger
This time it is not too much attention on Hetty and Granger unlike past episodes. Nevertheless it is enough to keep them in plot apty tied to their roles as ex CIA Agents working for Covert Ops and how every crime seems to be connecting them to something larger. The Afghanistan Mission is back into play with Grey Man Murder, as Granger knows that Goodsell could not have gone AWOL if Paul Barnes had nothing to do with it. But as it turns out Goodsell was trying to barter his services in return for favours from Barnes. Unfortunately Goodsell gets killed before anything is discussed with Barnes.
What is noteworthy for these senior Ex-CIA Agents is their need to find if Goodsell gave out any secrets before dying. Granger and Hetty are too deep in lots of things to ever return to being normal people. And Granger and Hetty do care about each others well being and safety. Granger also gets support from Sam and Callen as they ask him to step aside and let them handle Barnes as otherwise even Granger would get into trouble with Govt terming his actions as personal settling of scores and not professional.
And Hetty the seamstress. As usual she loves to dress up her Agents. Sam and Callen look lovely, along with Kensi.
Partnership 1-
G Callen & Sam Hanna
Again Ex-CIA Agents. They know the concept of Grey Man and are alarmed about an Agent going AWOL and found murdered as Homeless Man with possible MTBI symptoms.
Spaghetti with meatballs turns into Lasagna for Sam’s daughter. And it is her wish that her father does it for her. And Father is very much willing to be at daughter’s service. And that does not spare occasional calling in services of Uncle G/Callen. And Uncle Callen does help out his bit for both his niece and his bear brother Sam Hannah.

And we have a lovely talk between Sam and Callen, about how Callen has come far away from being the Lone Wolf. Five years and now he doesn’t look any more the Grey Man. Check out for these when you watch.
Callen: A Girlfriend and a home.
Sam: 5 years back...put in a lot of work in you G.
Callen: Am I your car Charlene restoring in spare time.
Sam: ….support system. Grey man works without a support system and when he falls he hits the ground hard.

It is revealed to us that Callen is going steady with his girl friend Joel, who had been set up by Sam and Michelle for Callen. The episode ends on Callen. It is pretty clear that Callen is very much being the Grey Man with himself getting involved with person of non-CIA background, that he could very well turn out into Goodsell the way Goodsell could not reveal himself even to his son. What will happen to Callen as things get close for Callen with Joel and when time comes for him to decide?
Partnership -2
Marty Deeks - LAPD Liaison Officer
Kensi Blye -Special Agent
A lot of clarity is shed on Densi by Andrew Bartels, as if he trying to remove confusion for everyone. So Deeks and Kensi are happy discussing Little Deeks and Ninja Assassins with fantastic hair, but there is brevity on the matter as it being impossible to achieve. “You know it’s not gonna happen” is what Kensi quips in as if they are very much settled on this matter.

What starts as funny banter around Deeks and his homeless Undercover persona with a new name “Arty” for his coat, becomes a serious talk for Densi around the subject of Homeless beings. [Deeks: How would you know you are not Arty's type anyways?  ….Kensi: Can’t fool me! Deeks: I wish I had known her. Kensi: No you wont.] Kensi comes out clean with Deeks about her stay on the streets as a worst phase of her life when she made a lot of mistakes. And kensi does not want to talk about it with Deeks because she wants him to see only her best part.
Its lovely as slowly everything starts loosening Kensi. We should watch the episode for it. Kensi is quick on attributes of being a CIA Agent or kin of CIA Agents. She understands "The Grey Man" and secrets they would never ever want to resurface. It starts weighing on her mind as turning into homeless is not ARTY for her. It is too bitter of an experience to even remember. And yet, Kensi had played it all so well along with Deeks. The Grey Man she is.
Deeks is not an Agent. Then doesn't Deeks have any secrets ? In spite of him just being an LAPD Detective, Deeks is a Grey Man blending into situations unnoticed by anyone with his undercover skills. What does anyone know about him? Does Kensi know him well?  She says, “You can’t lie to me”. Is that true?
It was interesting to hear as he yells Plan B to Kensi as explosion takes place. It reminded me of his Season 2 Episode that takes everyone of us including Kensi, closer to what Deeks is. Things have changed a lot since Plan B for Deeks, but he could be as elusive as the other Agents.

Watch out for reveal on Kensi’s burrito devouring habits and Deeks “time to take Arty out of the Freezer”, the Homeless Man's jacket about which Callen complains of giving him a rash. And the funny photoshopping of Deeks and Goodsell together in Afghanistan.
Ops Room  Partnership
Eric Beale- Tech Operator
Nell Jones - Intelligence Analyst
This episode is definitely not about Eric or Nell or Neric. The last episode was theirs. More importantly Nells. And the next one’s going to be about Eric.
Guest Characters
DOD, CIA, USCIS, DEA, Mexico Cartels, Pena Cartel...
None so important. Yet, CIA Agent Paul Barnes could get repetitive. So might DEA Agent Mario Sanchez.
