Writing Team - Season One

Legend introduces the NCIS LA Team as a spin-off from NCIS. And Identity continues from where we left off. We see that NCIS LA's key writing team is that of Producer-Creator Shane Brennan with his Story Editing team of Speed Weed and Dave Kalstein. And they are supported by other brilliant writers. Matt Pyken and Gil Grant are Consulting Producers, Lindsay Sturman is the Supervising Producer, R Scott Gemmill is the Executive Producer and Tim Clemente is also working as the Consultant. Towards the later part of the season, Joseph C Wilson and Corey Miller were asked to write one episode each.

  1. Speed Weed is known writer for Law and Order -Special Victims Unit. I liked his stories in Season 1. One of my fav writer. I get sucked into the story.
  2. Matt Pyken is known for many shows like Queer as Folk, Knight Rider, Las Vegas, Castle and The Wedding Band.  He is another fav writer in this season for me.
  3. Lindsay Jewett Sturman known for Bionic Woman, Harpers Island, Close to Home and later Rizzolli and Isles (after NCIS LA). Her stories have a banter between characters has a class of intellect which is nothing short of being stimulating to think twice about the most insignificant subjects, because they seem that important. Her sense of humour is brilliant.
  4. Shane Brennan was the Executive producer for the parent show NCIS. And for NCIS LA, he is the creator.
  5. Gil Grant is an established writer and also the head writer of parent show NCIS. He has worked on Relic Hunter,Tracker, 24, Army Wives to name a few as these shows are the ones I know about. If he could make NCIS a hit, then Shane Brennan and CBS must have believed in that he could make even NCIS LA a hit.
  6. R S Scott Gemmill worked for ER and JAG, the parent for NCIS. He is able to write stories concerning the Navy Personnel.
  7. Dave Kalstein has never written for TV Shows before, but has written scripts for Hollywood Cinema. He is a trained in Sayoc Martial Arts and also a violinist. Three different kinds of skill sets.
  8. Tim Clemente
  9. Corey Miller
  10. Joseph C Wilson
  11. Shane Brennan, R Scott Gemmill and Dave Kalstein are the master backstoppers for the NCIS LA characters. Together the three have created Story Arcs which are developed along by all the brilliant writers of NCIS LA.
  12. Gil Grant, Joseph C Wilson then develop background emotional stories around those arcs for the characters. They interweave the undercurrent emotional involvement for these characters that explains the backstopping. And rarely it is felt in a big manner that takes the attention away from the episode's primary plot. Yet there are one or two scenes that become imprinted in our memory about our characters which propel into future. The overall emotional involvement never allows us to forget how our character was affected and what is it that drives him to be what he is today.
  13. The story construction and continuity is kept in line by three teams - the creator-writing team, the editing team and the script supervising team.  Creation (and related backstopping) is governed by Shane Brennan. Continuity has been maintained in season one by Speed Weed and Dave Kalstein as editing team with script supervision from Diane Valentine. In Season 2 Joseph C Wilson replaced Speed Weed.
  14. Speed Weed, Matt Pyken established writers of other successful CBS shows retired after effectively launching the NCIS LA Show. I miss them ...
