6x07 - Leipei

“Leipei” – When a man is murdered by a small drone, the team discovers his connection to a terrorist group that is planning another local attack. With time running short, Nell must use her drone expertise to try to divert a disaster in Long Beach.

Highlights of the Episode:

  1. Focus on International and Domestic terrorism.Greek Terrorism and Eco Terrorism.
  2. Chauvenet is still online and very much the happening market place for legal goods and services. It is kept alive by the Federal Govt in the hope of catching leaks within Government before shutting it down. This was introduced by Gemmill in 6x02 Episode.
  3. Who is the Mole ? Is back in subtler way between Granger and Hetty. This gets aggressive coverage in 6x09 "Traitor" Episode, another Gemmill Episode.
  4. Mentoring of Nell continues. Hetty does so.
  5. Nell in the field as Radio Controlled Aircraft expert.

Episode
6x07 - Leipei
It means “Missing” in Greek language. The episode is about a man murdered by a drone who happens to be an ex-greek PK terrorist who was staying in US under Homeland Security’s Witness protection programme but had gone missing ever since. A backwards story of whys and wherefore leads to what led the man to his death.

Episode Summary
Elias Mina, a Greek terrorist, killed in LA. Mission is to find why was he in LA and who killed him.

And Elias Mina too does his business on Darknet “Chauvenet”! Welcome to 6x02-Episode.
This investigation leads through the deals that Homeland Security offers to terrorists who become moles for their own organization. Elias Mina was offered witness protection for turning against his PK members. His name is not put in Flight Risk list. And the man takes advantage of it.
Though  his PK outfit (Polites tin Katapolemisi Tis - Greek for Citizens Kombat) is after him for being the mercenary traitor, it is not them who kill him. It is actually Palmer an Eco-terrorist (or Green terrorist) running his organization “Live Free First”, who kills Elias Mina with the same Drone that Mina had sold to him as proof of concept before the larger Drone is put to actual use, in order to wipe out any trail leading Mina’s operations back to him.
NCIS Personnel Highlights and Bull Pen Fun
Nell uses her skills as an expert on radio controlled aircrafts. She is the one because of whom LA is saved from potential Arson planned by Green Terrorist Palmer.

Who is the Mole? - the alternate plot runs through Granger and Hetty’s lean but  meaningful looks and talk apart from the case.
No Bull Pen. Fun is at the Firing Range and Armour room. Sam is trying to excel in weak hand shooting. Which of course has set off Callen because he Sam is obsessing with the need to excel every new skill on the planet. Which of course gets Deeks to be boastful of his shooting skills trying to be the Wild West Cowboy, which of course leads Kensi to snub Deeks to tone down his self-praise, which of course makes Deeks defensive and which of course needs to be interrupted by Eric Beale except that Deeks the not so obvious Geek is not in the mood to listen to anxiety issues of Eric Beale the anxious alienated Geek.
I could not help comparing this scene with Eric’s scene in 6x02-The Inelegant Heart. I have to say, I loved Gemmill’s episode there. Eric is smart and not just a guy who can be asked to do things like others. He does things only what he likes. Even if he is left alone.
Ops Manager/s
Asst Director Owen Granger
OPs Manager Henrietta Lange
Granger is very much in control of the Ops Mission. Hetty is helping Ops run the business as usual by being the efficient manager she is. But there there two things that Hetty does in the episode which lets us know that Hetty is still the Henrietta Lange who runs the NCIS LA OSP.

  1. Who is the mole that is after NCIS LA has been running throughout all the episodes since 6x02. And without any warning Granger has turned on protocol to go dark in most episodes. This is markedly seen with the way Granger has been giving orders aggressively to the team to go blind or be locked down or invoke 3rd choir protocols - the order of principalities to get work done without causing leaks. The leak scare has been in place since someone got to Hetty through darknet Chauvenet. Through the buyer Mattias Draeger is killed, the anonymity of the seller’s identity is still unsolved.  Though in this episode Granger does not show any alarming baritone of his, Hetty reminds him if he is still working on fishing out the mole.
  2. Hetty mentoring Nell continues. I have said in my other article on review of this season’s episodes that this subject is gravitating enough. And so it continues again as Hetty gives Nell a boost up for her method of trying to be an undercover agent in her style recognizing her weaknesses and compensating through her strengths.
Partnership 1-
G Callen & Sam Hanna
Banter and Action. Watch. I can never describe them in words.
Callen says Sam Hanna is on World tour of skill acquisition when he sees Sam practicing at the firing range with his left hand to outdo his trainer’s score. The funny banter becomes touchy banter when Sam is picqued at him being unable to contain Frank Kores in smooth tackles but has to apply force. Callen the not so crazy guy after gadgets asks Nell to instruct him operating the Drone tablet to recall the launched Drone back to the Construction Site.
Partnership -2
Marty Deeks - LAPD Liaison Officer
Kensi Blye -Special Agent
DEA Agent - Talia
It could be just my opinion but, Harimoto never gets Densi right. A lot of stuff about Deeks is whiny and about Kensi is being bossy. But that is not who they are. To understand Densi weave, best is to go by Gemmill, Military, Grant stories, which are minus the pure emotions of it, nevertheless there is a strong relationship blend which is a mix of friendship, partnership and amour; where Deeks and Kensi are getting at each other’s throats, or are eyeing each other in sometimes frivolous terms and sometimes deeply endearing notes and also being each other’s backs in equal proportions; mixed with humour that is raunchy and not soft. This is of course completely missing in Harimoto’s episodes, who does try to get all Gemmill elements through mentions of snubs through digs at Monty, Geek and skateboarding habits.
If I leave that, then...Densi did good investigation, establishing why Elias Mina was using the recycling facility. To build a larger prototype of the Drone that was used to kill Elias Mina. And ofcourse the killers of Mina had to be the ones who bought the Drones from Mina.
Ops Room  Partnership
Eric Beale- Tech Operator
Nell Jones - Intelligence Analyst
Eric impresses us with his skills digging information over darknet Chauvenet.
And Nell has a hobby skill. She is an expert on radio controlled aircrafts. This gives her an opportunity to step into field as an expert along with Scallen. She gives her report on the Drone to Scallen. Later it is Nell who is able to save explosives chain reaction at South shore oil refinery that Green Terrorist Palmer had targeted to get his reaction for his War on Corporations.  She instructs Callen to successfully recall the Drone back to construction Site before it explodes.

Neric weave is there. Eric calls Nell a Tiger. He helps her get out to the field by asking her to speak about her expertise. He also takes pride in her skill by showing off how much of her presence is an asset to him, by saying, “I own you Nell, I loaned you” (to join Scallen in the field).

Director David Rodriguez liked the ending scene for Renee and Linda. We have pics of that scene from Twitter too (if you scroll down).  Its the last scene between Nell Jones and Hetty Lange. Which I described above in Hetty’s section as the manager mentoring her staff.
Guest Character/Repeat Plots
None to remember
Who is the Mole ?
Explained above.
Others/GK
Eco Terrorism

Darknet, Bitcoins
Pappy Van Winkle Whiskey
From the Net: During the past two decades in US, radical environmental and animal rights groups have claimed responsibility for hundreds of crimes and acts of terrorism, including arson, bombings, vandalism and harassment, causing more than $100 million in damage. While some activists have been captured, ecoterror cells - small and loosely affiliated - are extremely difficult to identify and most attacks remain unsolved. Although it has been overshadowed by Islamic terrorist threats since September 11, ecoterrorism remains one of the country's most active terrorist movements.
